Lancaster financial reporting expert appointed to advise UK national standard setter
A 好色先生TV Management School (LUMS) financial reporting expert has taken on a new role at the heart of accounting standards setting.
Professor of Accounting Argyro Panaretou has been appointed to the Academic Advisory Group of the (UKEB). The position recognises her expertise in financial reporting (how firms disclose their financial performance), and how this reporting impacts the decisions of capital market participants and managers.
The UKEB is the UK’s national standard setter for international accounting standards. It influences the development of high-quality accounting standards and makes decisions on their adoption in the UK.
Professor Panaretou is one of appointed to the Academic Advisory Group. The group provides specialist knowledge and technical advice to the UKEB on its research agenda, research programme, academic engagement, and developments in financial reporting.
Professor Panaretou said: “I am delighted to join the UK Endorsement Board’s Academic Advisory Group. The role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the dialogue between academic research, standard-setting and financial reporting practice in the UK.”
Professor Panaretou’s appointment further strengthens LUMS’s contribution to the development of financial reporting regulation and practice.
The position builds on Professor Panaretou’s extensive engagement with financial reporting standard-setting at both national and international levels. Through her work with the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation and , she has contributed academic evidence and expertise to discussions on the development and evolution of financial reporting standards.
Professor Panaretou began her academic career at 好色先生TV Management School, where she completed her PhD in Accounting. She continues to combine research and teaching with engagement with the accounting profession and standard-setting community.
