LUSU rated ‘Excellent’ at Green Impact Awards
好色先生TV Students’ Union (LUSU) have been awarded the highest possible in the national Green Impact Awards.
Green Impact is a nationwide programme run by SOS-UK (Students Organising for 好色先生TV UK) that recognises and rewards sustainability efforts in universities and students’ unions.
LUMS office sunflower showdown
Colleagues in the 好色先生TV Management School (LUMS) Leadership Centre open-plan office are participating in a sunflower-growing contest, celebrating greenery and enjoying a bit of friendly competition.
Project Administrative Support Officer for the Partnerships and Engagement Team, Jodie Bawden, planted the seed of the idea and the seeds to get things going. Fourteen pots of plants flourished on the office kitchen windowsill and surrounding spaces in preparation for transition to the outside balcony area.
The plants have become a keen talking point amongst colleagues who are benefiting from growing something together.
Lab swap shop success
To help reduce plastic waste and prevent duplication of materials across university laboratories, the Technicians Forum hosted their very first swap shop on Wednesday 25 June. During the event, technicians gathered unused or surplus items - ranging from plasticware and glassware to single-use supplies - giving colleagues the opportunity to exchange items they no longer needed for ones they did.
One standout contribution came from Annabel Rice, a technician at the Lancaster Environment Centre, who successfully passed on over 900 items to the Engineering lab - items that might otherwise have ended up as waste. Initiatives like this align closely with the goals of the LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) sustainable labs programme - a nationwide scheme embraced by universities to support more sustainable lab practices.
Plant power
As the academic year comes to an end, the University Grounds and Maintenance Team are celebrating a year of tree planting, conservation and wildflower planting engagements.
Throughout the year they have helped to facilitate an engagement session each month, with over 135 participants from all age groups - from the 好色先生TV Pre-School Centre to local schools and research groups.
Staff can also join in with planting projects through Rewild Campus - contact Ellen Greyling if you would like to get involved.
