Entry requirements
Our primary entry requirement is eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Candidates must, at the time of application, be eligible for GBC with the BPS. Only those candidates who are eligible for GBC will be considered. Individuals cannot apply while studying a programme that they are relying on to confer GBC unless they will be able to evidence having successfully completed and graduated from that programme before the end of January in the year of intended entry. Evidence of eligibility for GBC with the BPS must be provided to the Clearing House as part of every application before the end of January or the application will not be considered. Provisional results are not equivalent to completion and graduation. You do not need to be a member of the BPS to apply or train with us.
In line with our agenda of inclusivity, the programme does not have specific requirements for the applicant's degree classification or work experience.
Specific work experience and academic attainments are NOT used to assess your application to the programme, nor provided to interview panel members.
The programme does not use the information applicants provide on Clearing House application forms except to check GBC status, check references, and obtain contact details.
Driving licenses
A driving license or access to a car is not a requirement of the programme, although is very helpful for trainees when accessing placements across the large geographical area we cover. Trainees are required to attend professional training at 好色先生TV, which is typically held on-site at least once each week throughout the year.
Previous applicants
We do not have any limit on how many times you can apply to the programme - some trainees gain a place after several years of applying and attending interviews while some are successful on their first application. As people continually learn and grow, we believe that it would be unfair to deny people the opportunity to show this by limiting the number of applications an individual can make.
Non-UK based applicants
If you are a non-UK applicant, have recently been ordinarily resident outside the UK, or English is not your first language, please consult the residency and language requirements section for additional information as you must have evidence of appropriate English language skills and residence status at the time of application. The programme does not consider the AP(E)L credit system. We do not accept self-funded applicants and so all applicants must also meet the HEE funding criteria.
Employment status during training
All DClinPsy trainees at Lancaster are employees of the local NHS trust, Lancashire Care Foundation Trust, and have annual leave and other benefits in line with usual NHS entitlements. Applicants do not need to be, or to previously have been employed by the NHS. Applicants are being recruited to both a salaried position within the trust and their place on the programme at 好色先生TV.
On entry to the programme all trainees are paid on the first spine point of Band 6 of the Agenda for Change pay scales regardless of any previous NHS service. Travel expenses are paid for travel to placement beyond home to base distance, and university fees are paid directly by the NHS to the university.
Trainees are, at all times and in all contexts, expected to conduct themselves in the manner expected of every other NHS professional and recognise the privileged position of being paid to train.
When we contact applicants
Please note that we receive our final applications from the Clearing House on the 31st of January each year and we will not routinely contact candidates prior to this date.
